yea you need to make sure to file the Dog down anyways to make sure its square with the pan Dale told me about doing this a while back and i like it. with the bump it dont really make a noise when its set with the bump cut down it does.
i got about 4 doz traps to still file down too.

I file the bumps in half, leaving a minute mount of dog for the pan to rest on. Don't try too hard to make this all happen fellers. It ain't rocket science.
I don't get why anyone would want a larger pan. But I don't get much.

LOL... I have no problem with the size of the pans that are on the 1.75 or any trap for that matter Dale. I just mentioned that for what bigjohn posted with the extra care of trap placement with smaller traps like the 1.75. I thought he meant when using a 1.75 (altho it does have a smaller jaw spread) I thought he was referring to the pan size as well. You can put bigger pans on some traps, but not all traps. Some do put slip covers made out of asphalt shingles for their pans when it comes to bobcat trapping (exposed trap set), to make a bigger area for the bobcat to step on. It has to be bigger then the pan, or you wouldn't be able to slip it over the pan.
But anyway, I myself prefer the 1.75 for land trapping. You get a good pad catch on the critters and good holding power. I think it is a bit heavy for the grey fox tho, never had a problem with the reds. Some just use 1.75 when they think they will have a dog problem, otherwise they use 2's and 3's. But tell me where in MO you DON'T have a dog problem.
A good modified 1.5 does wonders on cats and coyotes as well.

Dogs suck. Or rather, erant dog owners suck.
The best thing about modern traps is that they are pretty much all built well enough so that you can use smaller traps and get away with catches on coyote-sized critters. I wouldn't hesitate in the least using these 1.75's on my whole line.

The only traps I use oversize pan covers on are my #3's for exposed pan cat traps and most of them are #3 victor DLS.I did make shingle covers for some of my #3 Northwoods coilsprings and used them both ways.I really couldn't tell the difference in the ones with and the ones without. For covered traps,I wouldn't want bigger pans. I will say,I have far less sprung traps with the bigger traps, especially if they get covered in snow.

im gonna leave mine not laminated. they lock up really high and im not sure if its really needed personally. i did laminate all of my #2 bridgers and my 1.5 bridgers but the 1.75 im leaving alone for now. both the 1.75 and the #2s i got in offset jaw so i think they will be fine.

Luke, I did a little experiment last year.. Gunsmoke71 modded up my traps, but I left 6 unlaminated to test... The ONLY critters that had any damage from fighting the traps were on the unlaminated traps.... Just my experience from last year, but I will be laminating all my traps on because of what I saw from my "test"....

I' got all my #2 bridgers laminated but gonna leave the 1.75s alone for now and see how they do. personally, and this is just me but on like the bigger traps like #2s and bigger I think 4 coiling them is more important than laminations but that's just me. I would have 4 coiled the 1.75s but the people at MTP said if you do you won't be able to open them by hand lol so ill just run my normal 3 swivels and night latch and they will be good to go. still thinking that I'm gonna put a bit if weld on the baseplates too. the come with baseplates riveted on but like my #2s did but not sure if I trust rivits over my welds lol

I plan to tack weld the base plate and j hooks as well as the jaw tips. I do not plan to laminate unless I absolutely have too. I don't think it will be any foot damage on yotes at all, but not sure about other critters till the time comes !!!
