It read that the firearms season "shall not" run into Thanksgiving. Don't know if it still does, haven't checked the Code.

I know folks that hunt Mo. and Ks. and they say the size difference is in the food base. I don't trap or coon hunt in Ks., so I don't care when they have deer season. Just think if Mo. season was all done before mid Nov. how much time there would be to hunt deer in other states. I don't think they mature or grow very much in thirty days. I can tell you that after a few years of only harvesting does, we had much larger bucks in my woods. As the season stands now much of the land I can trap only after Christmas. Deer camps are active throughout most of the fur season.

tjm,I feel your pain man. Here the bowhunters complain if I'm running my beagles on public ground during the Oct part of the season.I normally will hunt somewhere else if I see their vehicles parked in the lots. Then they hunt me down after they arrive late and want me to hunt elsewhere. They seem to think the world should stop just for them. Then we have a looooooong gun season(buck, doe ,primitive ,etc.) and some of the fools think they have to shoot animals in you traps or just pick up your traps. I don't deer hunt anymore due to the fact it just got to be shooting here.So many deer, not like it was years ago.I'd venture to say, that 75% of the hunters today couldn't have killed a deer back then,as they really have no hunters skills.Game cams and cameras have replaced real scouting, with some even sending info to their phones.Weapons today are even different.Shotguns that can place slugs in a pie plate at 200 yards,in-line muzzle loaders that shoot as good a group at 200 yards as a center-fire rifle, and compound bows that make 50 yard shots easily possible.

Thats called technology Bigjohn. People these days are getting lazier and the animals are getting smarter. Thats why some need these weapons of today, so they can reach out there and touch them because the hunter can't stalk them. Last trapping/deer season I stopped into Casey's and there was a deer hunter in there bragging about a shot he took with his 7MM mag and missed the deer at 500 yrds. I thought to myself, who in the what shoots at a deer 500 yrds away (in MO.) with a 7MM mag and not knowing "WHO" might be beyond that deer. My best friend and hunting buddy deer hunts with a 243, and I always wondered why. For the last 12 or so years that I have know him his deer has never been 50 yrds away, and he has bagged one every year sense I have known him. He also uses the same 243 to elk hunt with, and always brings one back.

The new alternative season is a joke. Do like I do and leave your trusty rifle at home during gun season. It's a lot more rewarding killing big boy with your smokepole. Best time to score IMO.
