I know this has been discussed here before but I forget the answer. Could a guy engrave his name & address or conservation number on the body of a dp and it be legal?

I assume so... All the code call for is the appropriate information be on durable material... Doesn't get more durable than the trap itself, lol I am gonna engrave EVERY SINGLE TRAP I HAVE THIS YEAR

I asked the CA that question at the Laurie clinic in front of a crowd. He said it has to be obvious. He said if it isnt then he might confiscate the trap and find the name later. All my DPs are engraved with great big numbers (conserv #) and have a copper tag to boot. Alot of my foot holds have my initials in an unobvious place. Back in the 70s, our farm was getting hit hard by scumbags. My Dad, on the advice of the sheriff, engraved everything. If a thief sees an indelible mark on a piece of property, he will leave it behind. If he gets caught with it then he cant talk his way out of it.

Agree with krank. The wording of the regs, implies using a tag. This makes it easier for the agents to see that your trap is in compliance with the regs and may serve to keep them from having to disturb your set to check it.Putting an identifing mark or such on traps, will help in proving it's your property,in case of theift.

I have not found anything that works to stamp or engrave
Be nice if the service was offered for a fee when ordering traps.

I have an air pin engraver that works pretty well on my traps, even in small places. I am engraving all my traps with conservation # and my initials for my reasons, but I still put the copper tag on for the agent to see. The agents are looking for those tags, not an engraving.Air engraverEngraving

I just got a response from the conservation website. They say yes engraving will be enough.

The CA said that an engraved trap might get taken back to the truck but he would see the engraving later and avoid a citation.

Harbor freight.....We always used those electric engraving pencils. For a deep wide etching use a die grinder.

Not really for sure Buzz. I happen to get this one from a friend, and he got it from his work. The hose was busted on it and the company that he works for would rather throw it away and replace it with a new one instead of repairing the hose.
