So u think that an "anti" couldn't be appointed the way it is now.... I think ur sadly mistaken... There are MANY antis out there with biology degrees, just saying... The way it is set up, is there is not ANY way to hold the commission accountable for it's actions or inactions....
My opinion, The elaborate, Way to High$$ Nature centers are a waste of money... They could do the same thing with for a tenth of the cost and left the funds where they were, toward conservation programs and improving habitat for our wildlife...

Obviously you've never worked on a commercial job.Plans have to be drawn up and approved by engineers, city officals, and MDC officals.Land up there is priced by the square foot, not acres. Then you have to put in the time and money for permits and site preparation.Utilities have to be located and moved. All this has to be done before the actual building can take place.None of this is cheap.

One doesn't need to ever have worked commercial jobs to understand the costs and complexities... Who said they had to build nature centers? they could've bought existing buildings and used them for a fraction of what they had to put into building them.... Just saying they've wasted revenue that was supposed to be used towards wildlife programs to build those things.

Never been to a nature center that was inside a building before. Do they import ticks and chiggers and mosquitoes in them indoor nature centers to get the real feel of nature? I guess they wouldn't do that, they wouldn't get that yuppy money.

If you go to the MDC site and look up their mission, one of them is to educate the public on wildlife and nature in our state. Many of those folks have no other exposure than those nature centers.Like I said, the MDC has to manage for all in Mo.,not just a few.Just because we can get out and enjoy it,doesn't hold true for some.To exclude someone just because they can't or don't hunt, fish,or trap, isn't a good thing. With folks uneducated in the way of nature, opens the door for poor relations with those that utilize the resourses. What if the law was passed that said you had to own over 5000 acres to hunt or have a say in game regs?
Oh,and if you think remodeling is cheaper than building, well. To remodel, you first have to tear out then redo.Twice the labor for a lesser product. It's not like they built something that's only going to last a few years.

I am lucky to be so close to our regional office. They have a very nice nature center and a pond where only kids can fish too. There are many people that enjoy the outdoors but have no access. I see it as money well spent.
