Expensive mostly because they are Made in USA.
They have a cantilevered system on the bottom of the trap where the chain hooks up that increases tension on the jaws as the animal pulls. The harder they pull, the tighter the jaws get.
I'm sure they're a fine trap- I just can't imagine having to bed the trap with all that stuff on the bottom.

That makes sense then to the pics. The description everyone had lacks a little. I can also see what your saying about bedding issues too. I was just curious cause I'm not opposed to spending money for something that's worth it or paying more for made in USA products but I don't have money to throw away either. I will just stick with what I have.

Yes I have some 550's and really seem to like them. Bridger #3's is what I was advised to buy to start out by a friend of mine whose helping me get started. I bought the MB's afterward since another recomendation by a friend. I'm happy with both so far since I really don't know what I'm doing anyway lol.

Only bad things I can say about Kurt Beauregards kb 5.5 is the price and that they are somewhat of a pain to bed at first due to the unique shock absorbing system on the bottom. Once you get used to bedding them, they are a heck of a trap. The dog less setup is great. I find myself reaching for them more and more.

I thought they looked great too! ....until I saw the bottom. And the price. Looked like a bedding nightmare. Heck, I haven't mastered bedding the DP's yet. LOL Once they lock onto something I bet they hold better than any though! Nice traps!
