I see a lot of new guys who want to wire their traps to everything. This is very much a no-no unless precautions are taken.
Wire breaks when it is repeatedly bent back and forth. Metal fatigue has cost folks a lot of critters over the years. And what else does an animal have to do but work that stuff back and forth?
When you tie-off with wire you need to do several things-
On a short tie-off, the wire needs to have a "hinge" built in- basically two pieces of wire, doubled, and then looped around each other. SWIVELS are also a must.
On a longer tie-off (like for a beaver set) multiple wraps around your anchor and tie-off point, then swivels in between the tie-off and the trap are critical also.
I NEVER use wire in any way on my predator sets. There are other ways to connect a trap to a drag or anchor. Don't be cheap. Trust me.

I laugh at some of these old traps that have rusty baling wire wrapped on them. Some of these water trappers use alot of wire to the extent they carry a roll dispenser on their belt. I work at a factory that throws away scraps of aircraft cable. I use it for lots of things.

When I ran out of chain a few years ago, I thought "Hmmm, I've got 800+ feet of 1X19 cable. Hmmm...?" Been using it ever since.
You don't get the neat clinking sound of a chain when you make a catch, however.

I was just thinking I could use it since I bought 1,000 ft roll at the fall rondy... also much lighter than chain... thanks...

On my big coni's I use 1/8 cable with quick connect around 6 ft long, makes it alot faster just fasten to a tree or big log, caught a 3xl otter last year no swivels in cable r chain he made a mess off the cable. this year i added a swivel to the chain and midway of the cable should work alot better !
