Was putting up a stand today and just happened across a couple nice puffballs that were between basketball and softball size. One was in really good shape and the other was about three days too far gone. Looks like chicken mushroom soup this week.

I thought those were poisons There are several species of puffballs but they are all edible. Very delicious when they are super fresh. Once they are up for a while, and begin to turn just a tad yellowish as they begin to prepare to produce spores, they are not very good. They are my favorite fall mushroom. Morels will be popping in just a few weeks! yay!!! You live in some great mushroom hunting country, Durham. |
