Do you guys use species specific lures and urine? I was thinking about getting species specific this year but dont know if the extra money will pay off... I've read alot where they say fox lures and urine is good for about all sets, however, I just did not have much luck with the fox pro-mix I got last year. What's ur thoughts on the matter?

This is my first year using any pro made baits and lures. I used just urine and some fish bait i made for the last 2.5 years. So were in the Same boat.

I am not that old but, are you talking about using fox lure/urine to only catch fox and nothing else, and so on and so on. Or is Species specific a lure company that you want to try out?

I am talking about... I.e. u find a location for cats, use cat urine or fox, find local for yote, use yote or fox... etc.. I had carmens pro mix in fox last year and used it for all my sets... do you think that changing the urine type will help with catchin a specific target species at a specific set? I have not tried any gland lures but plan to this year... the foxes, yotes and cats roam the same area, Will a fox gland lure work for cats? Will a cat gland lure work for fox, or should I use the gland lure for the species I am targeting?

Oh,ok... Well, what did you use in your video's? Scraps from making deer jerky and leftover from dinner. I just wanted to get some video of the yotes and foxes behind my house.

What Grump said.
You must of had that game cam in a hot spot to have all them different animals come up to it. The first 3 bobcat that I caught last season was at a dirt hole set with just fresh meat in the hole, no lure or urine.

I fully understand that there is nothing dead set, or will attract a single species. I guess the better questions would be......... If I am setting a cat set, is it best to use cat lure/urine in order to make is more likely to catch a cat? If I am setting a fox set, is it best to use fox lure/urine in order to make is more likely to catch a fox? If I am setting a Yote set, is it best to use yote lure/urine in order to make is more likely to catch a yote? ya know, nevermind.... I'll talk it this weekend.... Login - yes it is a hotspot... they all cross through that area regularly. Cattle farm on the back side of me and a big thick gully that goes down the hill off my property.

Trkyslyr, like everybody has said here, no specific lure will catch a specific animal. I think it is more in how you present your set to the animals. Eye appeal (flagging) for the cats, fox, coon. Lot of guiding for fox and cats, less guiding and less backing for yotes. Not saying if you use eye appeal and a lot of guiding that you won't catch a yote, it is just that they are more leery about a set like that. And if you make a set for yotes with less guiding and backing, don't be disappointed if you catch a fox or bobcat. There are different types of lures to use on a set for different reason's. Long distant call lure (ldc), gland lure, bait lure, urine. All of them have a purpose and they have to be used in the correct way for them to preform the correct way of their purpose. This explains it best... trapboard.com/index.cgi?board=archive&action=display&thread=8002But just like Grump said, location... location... location.... And you know how to find that because you showed use with your video's.

I am a big fan of using specie specific lures and urines. I use only fox specific lures and urine when making sets for fox. Picking out on tree or post next to my set and using it as a "scent" poles works amazing. Fox are like any other canine in that they mark their territory and this will draw a fox into the area of the set. Then to finish them off we use baits designed for fox in our dirt holes or similar sets. The urine alone wont catch them, but it helps with drawing them in. The scent of urine will travel a very long way with the wind, and once you get them in the bait will get them into the trap its self. We get our urine and baits from Funke Trap Tags and Supplies.
