Add your location to your profile...I like a strong taint for coyotes, a slight taint for foxes, and as fresh as possible for cats.

When in doubt, use fresh. The businesss of tainting is like winemaking. BTW....Take them horsehooves and get them in a jar of water and set them in the sun till season. It will stink like all craw and that is good for yotes. Hard to mess that up.

You can make a really potent long distance call lure very easily. Just take a fresh deer hide, put it in a 5-gallon bucket of water and let it soak. If you want to, you can throw in the hooves. Leave this in the bucket of water for at least a couple of months in a warm place. Keep it covered to keep flies out and put it where animals can't get to it and disturb it. During this time, some of the water may evaporate. If necessary, add more water- you want enough water to keep the hide covered and wet so it won't dry out. Put a brick on the hide to hold it under water so it won't float if you need to. You can stir it occasionally. The hide will break down during this time and you will end up with a bucket full of hairy, slimy slop. Wear a gas mask or you will puke your guts out. Pour this mess through a strainer and into another bucket and collect this juice. Bottle this stuff and add some glycerine so it won't freeze. Take an old sock. (White might spook a coyote, so use black or dark color if you are after coyotes.) Cut the sock in half. Use the toe half. Put some cotton balls in it. Squirt some of this juice on the cotton. Use a liberal amount- not just a few drops- but enough to really pump out the odor. Tie a string around the open end of the sock. Hang in a tree from the string. That rotten smell will sure carry a long way and really reach out to those coyotes. They'll circle the area looking for the smell and in the process will find your sets. Don't throw the solids away; you can also use the solids as an attractant in dirt hole sets.
