I started a batch of crawfish oil and fish oil. The crawfish got mashed into an unrecognizable mush before they went into the jar. I didn't worry about the shad since they was so small. Yep, those are air bubblers to a fish tank. I try to dumby proof most things, no jar of water to check on. Those will definatly keep flies out. They slipped out easily but a little silicone fixed it. Let me tell ya, the wife does not like it! LoL!

Looking good.....Dont rest on your laurels........Leave that out in full sun until frost! Put it up in a tree or in a cage so varmits dont get it. (I have had coyotes come in my yard and drag a 1/2 gallon jar a 1/4 mile away.) Flies will blow eggs in the rim of the jar unless its a tight seal. Wrap tape around it or grease the threads. I have a black box with glass panes that I melt beeswax in. Works good for a "hurry up" batch. Shad is awesome as it is super oily and smelly. I got jugs that are several years old. Remember that the sludge that forms in the bottom is good too. It will stink but eventually transform into an attractive odor. IMO.

Yep, got juices from the crawfish. But there is ALOT more solids than juice. The shad on the other hand have completely broken down and have separated into 3 different levels. Surprisingly you can't hardly smell them unless you are right up on it or just down wind. I mean you have to darn near put your nose on! Must be because of them air bubblers?

I'm not happy with the crawfish results. Maybe I done something wrong. Oh well. The shad turned out ok-ish. There are two parts, the dense solids and some juice. No oil was produced on either.

I have not made my own yet so....... everything I have read calls for that tube to be submerged in water. This is for two reasons. To keep the flies out and second to create a zero oxygen environment to break it all down in.

Oh it's all broke down, except for the shells. I'm better off ordering some every year.
