Here's some home made trapping stuff. Feel free to add your own ideas.

Adjustable loop made with two annealed 1/4" nuts and 3/32" cable.


Swivels made from 3/4" black iron pipe. Cut the pipe into 1/2" pieces, then drill two holes opposite of each other. You can use it as an in line swivel or a stake swivel. I had Lowes cut a 4 foot section for free.


Stainless steel pogo driver on the left. This one was very easy because I used a lathe and a mill.


Drowner rod made form 1/4" round and a drowner lock. The round comes in 20' sticks, so I cut some at 8' and some at 10'. That gives you an assortment of 8',10',and 12' pieces. Enlarge the hole on the lock to 5/16". On the deep end, bend the rod back onto itself to prevent the lock coming off. Slide the lock onto the rod. Bend the bank end into a loop big enough for a stake.

Trap tags made from 1/4" copper pipe and hog rig from 14 ga. copper wire. Flatten the pipe and cut into pieces with snips. I eye balled mine at 2". Drill a hole for a fastener then stamp your conservation number. Use a block of steel to stamp onto also.

Craig-I really like the drowner rods but would something bigger than a 'rat be able to bend that?(I guess they are pulling stright away....) I thought about making some drowner poles but did not think to use the pole for the slide rather than a cable...hmmm

The little green thing on the rope is what I carry all the time. I use the it for quick jobs and the white one for big jobs.

Go with 3/8 or bigger with a washer welded on the bank end.

Krank, I don't use rebar for stakes, I use cable stakes. My back is bigger then my a$$. I seen and thought of that design before, but don't have the a$$ to pull (push) these up that way.... I only weigh 145lbs. I can pull better then I can push...




Better to look like a grinner then a skunk....lol...

Homemade sifter... Only because I had the material around the farm. 1/4" woven wire with some 1 by lumber...

Mofo---Heres my Iowa style from an old post last fall. Yeah, I use disposables sometimes. I prefer rebar stakes. Never did use drags. Ain't got time to look for things . Some folks use drags next to the road so the critter can hide after trap snaps.

By the way, if any of ya by chance make your own swivels out of black iron pipe, do make sure that you use 3/4" pipe like he said. I was wondering why he was using such a big pipe for that, I know now. If you use 1/2" pipe like I tried, the rivet will not fit threw the 1/2" pipe. But the swivlels will be crunch prof.

I have used 1 x1 sq tube with 20d nails....cut like 3/4" long......

The loop that is attached to the spring is much cheaper to make than those teardrop rings. I still can't figure out how to put those things on right! LoL. All that is needed is a double ferrule and a couple inches of the same size wire. The swivels are 4/0 size, and they come from a local tackle shop. I believe they're rate at 350#. On this coni, there is about 18" of wire, then a 4/0 swivel, about 5' of wire then another 4/0 swivel. A heavy duty S-hook fits loosely in the swivel eye (not pictured). A ferrule swager is handy if you do a bunch, they're about 30-40 bucks at LOWES. And you're cable eyes dont have to be big either, just big enuff. The whole setup cost just over a buck, a little cheaper if you use a annealed nuts.

i sure dont recomend use those fishing swivels for anything bigger than rats. I quit using those kind of barrel swivels on catfish because they break.
The swaging tool is cool. You get more consistent crimps as opposed to smashing with a hammer.
