Skunk oil anyone make it? If so do you cook it over a fish cooker or sun render it? I am curious about anybodies reason for one method or the other.

I am sun renedering mine. I got plenty of time. When it comes to lures, I think the high heat is bad.....changes the chemistry.

I cut all the fat off then I slow cook it in the frying pan to make it like lard but don't cook it inside.

I think MOCATMAN had some info about beaver tails in lure making. I used some of his tail lure this year, good stuff. Ill try to find the thread for you.

I skin my tails and then chunk up fat and put in jar and set in sun.(window sill in house) Amazing how it quicky turns to oil. Flys are non-issue this time of year.

Well I made a hot box and put the skunk fat to work. I am not going to cook it as I have received word it has a less intense smell when done that way. I had never done it that way but I guess I have time to wait on the sun lol.

also skunks scent glands are on either side of the rectum. If you use a syringe you can extract a good amount from a large skunk...one on either side.Great addition to a lure and I used to make big money selling it to some big time lure makers

The neighbor has skunks under his shed he's cage trappin for me to render oil. Hope it goes as planned, it's in the middle of town! But when sun rendering do you preserve the stuff or just let it go. Tried some fish oil rendering and it's the most horrid smell

How do I find someone to sell skunk essence to? I have started extracting my own skunk juice but probably won't make my own lure. Also would be willing to trade it for good lure.

MTP and other lure makers will sometimes buy it or give you a trade for lures.Heard O'Gorman was paying $25 an ounce for some. Just have to call around and peddle it.
