Hey, I figured this fit this forum better...
It's all about-
Concealment. You have to stay hidden. Be extremely careful/quiet/quick when setting up. Make a LOT of stands. Then do some more. Call evenings, nights, or pre-cold front days. Try different calls/tones. Learn to howl to locate or even use as a primary call. Creek bottomsand irrigation ditches are great places to call. Call where the predators/prey LIVE. Don't give up!

Them dirty dogs can smell you a half mile away if not a mile. I dont know how many times I have had one runnig to a call and stopped cold and left because he winded me. The wind direction is everything. No sense in even looking behind you when you are facing the wind. Also, its tempting to sit in the sun but stay in the shade.

Good krank, I just assume that wind direction is a given...

stay as scent free as you can, i spray down with scent killer and and wash clothes in scent killer before i go out make sure the wind is in your favor, they love to try and get down wind of you, stay hidden and dont move while calling, do numerous set ups, couple hours of hunting in the mornings after it breaks light and a couple before dark is the best times to call

I agree with all of your calling advice when it comes to scent. Our best caller in this area, kills a lot of cats, yotes and foxies. He tells me it is all about scent and of course being a great shot. He always hits his critters in the eye! But, the locals say that it is because the eyes are all he sees since he is using red lights! ha,ha! Who knows what goes on down in these parts. We ain't gotta stop light or a McDonalds in Shannon County. Hope that never changes!
I also agree with krank. I have run, not biked across KS. Well have run large sections but not across the entire state. It is darn hilly when you are afoot! ha,ha! My favorite place to hang out in KS is Konza Prairie, near Lawrence. I have run there and hiked there quite a bit. Great place to see some spectacular Flint Hills natural landscape, maybe a bison, and definitely a lot of native plants that are almost gone from our planet. I would not call KS flat but I am sure some of it really is flat. They probably grow irrigated crops in those areas.

I live in Lilbourn so I know what your talking about when you say flat! I was driving around today when I spotted 2 big coons in a tree breeding, so I grabbed my squaller an .17, but by time I got there they were gone. So hit my call, which sounds more like a rabbit distress than a coon, an within seconds had a 35 lb. male coyote standing broadside at less than 10 yds. I thought I was gonna have to shoot him in self-defense. lol. This is only the second yote ive been able to call in this year. Good luck!!

Sorry have no advice on calling but, Kansas is flat compared to the Colorado Rockies lol. And it don't matter what direction you are traveling in Kansas, you will always have a head wind for sure, I mean ALWAYS!!!

Use a decoy, it can be a feather tied to a stake in the ground or by a mojo decoy. Anything that has motion. This keeps the dogs attention on the decoy and not you. Some dogs come running in 5 seconds after u hit that first call, some take 20 min. I usually move to another stand after 20 min. If your callin cats then sit for 45 min. It takes them longer to come in cuz they stalk their prey

Bobcats are funny because you can quit calling and they stop and just walk away. They forgot the whole thing. I went to ToysRus and got a ball that rolls around with a battery in it. It has an off-centered fly wheel inside that makes it roll around. I painted that olive drab and tied a deer tail to it. I have had critters grab it in their mouth.
