Well got mine in the mail 2day, but had to bury my dog, n wasn't in the mood to go out. I'll give it a shot 2morry, n see what happens. Do you think night time is better than day?I got a guille suit, n a blind, wich would be best do you think?

Night is best for calling, not the best for shooting.
Forget the blind. If you're calling the way you need to, you'll be too busy moving around. A typical day calling for me would be something like 20-25 stands covering miles of terrain. Unless you're going for 'cats, then about half that many.
Good luck. Sorry about the dog.

Dale's right. The more stands youy make the better your odds.If you see coyotes regular in a certain area,it is usually a place they lay up during the day.Slip in downwind from them and wail away.Coyotes are usually quick responders and I hardly ever spend more than 15 minutes at a stand for them.Fox about the same. Now cats is a whole different game. Those buggers take their time in most cases.I've had them run in,but that's not the norm.Cats also seem to require more calling.Seems they can get disinterested pretty quick.

Cats turn around and leave as soon as you stop calling. I seen that and been told that. You cannot use a light and electronic call at night in MO. The CA told me that he would not have a problem with anybody going out in a full moon with a mouth call and shotgunning coyote. With my luck I would have one jump on my back. Down in TX, they dont care so they have trucks with spotlights and bleacher seats and loudspeakers and a whole bunch of hunters going cruising at night.

From the Wildlife code:
(5) Wildlife, except raccoons or other furbearing animals when treed with the aid of dogs, may not be searched for, spotlighted, located, harassed, or disturbed in any manner with the aid of an artificial light, headlight, or spotlight from any roadway, whether public or private, or in any field, woodland, or forest, by any person acting either singly or as one of a group of persons. This section shall not apply to the use of a light by a landowner or lessee as defined by this Code on property under his/her control.
If you own or lease the land, you can use a spotlight to night hunt for predators

Wait, I rescind my previous post:
(B) Artificial Light. No person shall throw or cast the rays of a spotlight, headlight, or other artificial light on any highway or roadway, whether public or private, or in any field, woodland, or forest for the purpose of spotting, locating, or attempting to take or hunt any game animal, except raccoons or other furbearing animals when treed with the aid of dogs, while having in possession or control, either singly or as one (1) of a group of persons, any firearm, bow, or other implement whereby game could be killed.
You can spotlight animals on your own property, but not if you have a weapon by which an animal could be killed

It take practice. And luck. And lots and lots and lots and lots... Oops, did I get carried away there? I've went DAYS without something responding to a call. Then one day a couple years ago went 5 out of 6 stands with some sort of predatory action. Makes it worth while, to me.

I been callin coyotes for the past 4 years, and yes mountain man you are right they respond to a call 10 times better at night, I just wish they would legalize the use of nightvision to hunt those suckers. Texas and Colorado, Indiana and many others states allow this. I suppose they are afraid this would only encourage taking non target game such as deer but the way I look people gonna do this anyway so don't punish the rest of us, I think we need a petition started for legalizing the use artificial light/ night vision for predator hunting!

Lance, it's in the works. And as usual, trapboard members will be needed to cooperate and help get it done.

The reason for allowing landowners to use lights at night was there was a big stink awhile back when a CA tried to ticket a farmer checking cows with a spotlight. The incident resulted in the MDOC clarifying the rule. I know an old man thats dead and he used to call fox at night and used a red light. Fox dont care about a red light. It would be nice to trim back the yotes by spotlighting but it is kind of a an administrative can of worms. YOu could imagine the abuse some would pull.

I guess it would be wise to see how this is working in the other states that have already legalized the use of artificial lights and see if they have any evidence of an increase of abuse and go from there. On the other hand those who might abuse this, will probably engage in such activity weather its legalized or not. I sure hope it works out

Per my conversation with the CA, you may predator call at night. You just can't use a light or an electronic call. Need a full moon and a shotgun.

Goot, you got a shotgun? I used to use both a 12 gauge & my .223, or .204. Most night hunts 80% of my shots were with the 12 gauge. I used a Winchester model 1300 in 3 inch mag with those heavy shot loads & would smoke them out to 50-60 yards in open terrain if needed. Most shots were at 40 or less. Shy ones used to hang up on me & sometimes had to shot them with the rifles. I always keep that 12 on my knees, & the rifle on the ground. All I used for my lighting was a headlamp in red. I always took a skinned rabbit with me & would hang it out about 10 yards from my position on a tree or whatever was available, so the movement from it gave me a few more seconds as they might see that before me. It works, sometimes though the still would bust me. I only went a couple times last year. It began getting hard on me with working, & raising my boy. This is why I started trapping cuz I can check them before my wifey & boy get up, & I am not out til the 2-3am I used to be cuz it is so addicting isn't it? -T-
