I got my wall tent from the guy at the range. It is 10 x 8 not 12. It is white canvas in good shape with a professionally done stove jack. The wood stove is homemade but well done. Poles are dovetailed and go together with carriage bolts so you dont have to haul 10 ft poles. Might set it up soon and let it air out and just hide from the old lady in there. Also need to spray it with Thompsons. I had a tent maker tell me once not to but I have done it for 30 years with no ill effects. Ray wishes he had bought it.

The teepee worked pretty good during the big snowfall and temps in the mid teens the first weekend of deer season. Except I damn near froze to death. The 9000 BTU heater wasn't big enough at all. The design of the tent shed the snow great. The strong winds didn't faze it either. I had planned on using a 30,000 BTU vent-less heater, but it required an adapter for the propane bottle which the local stores didn't have on hand. No time to order it and have it in time, so I went with the smaller unit. There's plenty of room since it was just me and would have had enough for two people easily. IF I use it next year there has to be a better way to heat it though.

I stayed in the guest trailer down at deer camp. Its a 1954 model with hardwood cabinets and paneling. Maybe 10 x 30. I took my Mr.Heater that puts out 30,000 btu and runs on a gas grill bottle. I also ran the woodstove. I had two sleeping bags and a wool blanket. Still woke up cold and had to roll around to get warm again. Also had to get up twice a night to throw a log in. THe outhouse was 59 yards away and called my name about 430am. I made it okay. These hard core backcountry campers dont even attempt to run heat at night. THey just crawl in a warm bed and fall asleep. I used to tent camp on the snow in a mummy bag and slept fine. My son borrowed my down mummy bag and lost all the feathers. You will find that a lot of stores are sold out of heaters right now. That Mr.Heater roll around I have is nowhere to be found and even Amazon has a backorder.

Mike,go to one of the many army surplus stores and you should be able to find one of those mummy bags. I need to. Hard to find one reasonable that doesnt look 75 years old. The new army stuff is modular where they are a bag inside of a bag and high priced. I hate to buy another fart sack when I got ten but what is a good night sleep worth?

Spent a couple hours hand sewing a new stove jack and rain flap on my wall tent. It was cold and nasty out and the Chiefs were on at 3pm. Wife screamed a little at first. I told her a good woman would sew that for me and she said "&*%$#^$%o and the horse you rode in on"

Actually, my wife was raised on a dairy farm with 6 brothers. All of them hunted and trapped and thats all they ever talked about. She longed for someone to take her away from that. She married me. I bought her a big screen and a Buick to make up for me out hunting and trapping. She likes to fish and knows how to put cows back and mend fence.

Deer season will be here and I need to figure out where I am staying. Need to pitch my wall tent and waterproof it. Thought about buying a brand new trailer but then I cant haul my side by side. My 4 wheeler would fit in the truck bed.
Dealer called me wanting me to buy a neat little trailer for $11,900. I asked him what cash would do and he said he would charge more if I didnt finanace it. I asked him if I could come look and if I liked it then hitch and go. He said it doesnt work that way as the unit is winterized until check clears then they schedule a presentation. Suckers want all the marbles.
I looked on craigs list and there are NO campers for less than 10K. Used to be a lot of nice ones for 2 or 3 grand. Nowadays 2 grand gets you a donkey cart that still has donkey manure in it.
I think all these travel trailers disappeared because people live in them because they cant afford a house. How many trailers you see with haybales stacked around them so they dont freeze? Somebody is living in there.

You're right about prices. Gonna try to get the water lines fixed in my old camper and use it this year. The teepee tent did OK last year but it's hard to heat. Not as bad to put up as I thought it would be. You still have to load and unload everything. Once when you head out, again when you get there, once more when you leave and finally once more when you get home. Might take two trips, one for the camper and another for the Artic Cat. But it is what it is.

Easiest thing is to use my old camper and let my brother pull the side by side. I really am spoiled on that side by side. Just go over the hill and turn the key off and you are hunting. Got a roof over your head and two people can sit there with a cooler in back. Also toyed with cutting some boards in my sawmill and building an 8 x 10 cabin with a wood stove. Meth heads might just burn it or steal it. I have canvas tents and they are slightly warmer than outside due to the thicker material. Fire up the woodstove and you are comfortable. Those woodstoves need constant feeding or they go out. My propane buddy heater is a better choice as it would run all week on $20 worth of propane.

Those GP tents go up in under 10 minutes with a crew of 4. Know that for a fact cause I was one of the crew. Pretty easy once you get them figured out. We only used them here in the stateside army, overseas we just slept on or in our vehicles. I had a cot set up in the bed of my 5 ton truck. Stateside, we used the GP rigged up with the winter liner and 2 heating stoves that we heated by coal. Middle of winter with 8 inches of snow on the ground and we were comfortable in our tee-shirt in our tent.

Very heavy green material with a few patches. This new one is bigger and is lighter material and white. I need to pitch it and let the rain freshen it up and then dry and spraay with the old version of thompson waterseal. When I bought my sheepherder tent the lady said to use her $50 a quart stuff and never use Thompsons. I told her that I wish I knew that ten years aago because all my canvas gets thompsons. (that was 20 years ago) Takes me 30 minutes by myself but I do like help to stand ridge and hold until I start a guy line stake.

The teepee tent is a big improvement over the other tents I've had as far as room. My Sears Edmond Hillary goes up quick and easy. It's white in color and attracts the damn Japanese beetles. Last year I used it the inside walls were covered with them. I'm going to try again to get the trailer fixed so I can use it. I'd either have to haul my Artic Cat in the bed of the truck or make two trips. But the 30,000 BTU heater should keep things warm. Plus the ability to take a shower appeals to me. There wouldn't be as much room in the camper as the teepee. Although there's cabinet space for food and gear, and no packing/unpacking 4 times.

Looking over these threads and I realize I got too many tents and need to use them or get rid of them. I also have a giant MASH tent I never mentioned. After looking at the camper market, I just need to get some tar and screws and fix my trailer. My tires are shot even though they look brand new. It was always nice to roll over in bed and kick on the stove. All my gear is already in there.

I battled the heat today but got the water lines repaired in the camper. Going to have to replace the water pump since it's leaking from the housing. I have a spare and the pump is a lot easier to get to than the lines. May have to get new tires. After that, all that is left is to set up the propane heater.

I have been trailer shopping. My trailer that I wanted for 11k new has jumped to 15k in 5 monthes. Dealer denied it was ever 11k so I forwarded him the email he sent and showed him what a liar he was. My old trailer is looking mighty good now. I am going to gut it and do away with anything that doesnt work. Fix the tail lights and buy new tires. I found a water pump on amazon for nine dollars that you screw on the lid of a five gallon jug.

A new one is just out of reach for me right now. Prices on them are stupid high. Been watching locally for a used one that's in good shape, but wrong time of year to be buying.

I have beat it to death. I have told a couple salesmen they were crooks. New trailers cost twice as much as they are worth. Their excuse is trailer manufacturing was on hold for two years during the planned demic.
My theory on used trailers is that people are living in them. With rent so high, people are just wanting a roof over their heads. I notice a lot of old campers with hay bales around the skirt. That means somebody is living in there.
I have an old pop-up (hate pop ups) that I made into a flatbed trailer. I thought about framing it up with metal studs and putting in 12 vdc lighting and fan ventilation. A couple of store bought windows and a small door. Wrap it in aluminum siding. Would cost about 1000 bucks and it would be fine. I dont have time as I have too many other projects and need to fish more. By the way, a new camper door is over $500 so that would get made on my table saw.
