Has anyone ever used fresh water clams for a coon or mink bait. I have found an abundance of them in my local lake what god give might as well use right

What I called "The Shell Trick" had pretty good success for me in coon trapping. Anytime I found a good sized clam shell (empty), I used it to hold my jack mack bait in the bucket set. I think I had 4 shell halves, and almost all of my buckets with shells would repeatedly catch a coon. So don't know about mink, but coons seems to really like them.

Sweet may be I should fill a bucket full and lay them out to dry a little. Make the fishy smell stronger

I have caught January bobcats on the discarded shells from store bought mussels. Three in two days from the mussels my wife cooked in old bay seasoning on new year's eve. They are bright colored and smell gooooood.
Not sure about native mussels. Grumps is right about that!

I was told by our agent that I can have 5 daily and 10 total for the year. As I use them I can replace them. Because I'm married I can have 20 cause half are hers. The empty shells didn't count towards my total. I can have as many of those as I wanted.

I called my agent and she said I can only have 5 in possession total. And in order to use the clams I had to cut them into pieces no whole clams because the state doesn't want the clams to spread so you have to kill them befor you use them

That is pretty darn funny. Cutting up clams so they will not spread! I have a feeling the mdc bosses (in other words the folks who answer the phones) do not have a clue about how clams (mussels) reproduce! Funny freakin funny!! Sad is a better word for it. Sad, freakin Sad!
I think our mdc is sliding down a very steep slippery slope and I am getting outa the way!

Asiatic clams are the ones that look black and silver under water right
