This is the best way I've found to attach tags so critters don't chew them off,may be hard to explain, but here goes.. Were going to fold the tag in half 3 times..Place the copper tag thru your favorite chain link, center it,then fold it so the two ends away from chain are even,Squeeze it tight at chain link with pliers, then repeat, then repeat again, tag should end up folded tightly at chain, then you can roll it over inside the chain link.Have'nt lost one yet doing this, have had them chewed and partially unfolded, but still there.

Good tip! I saw that at the get together this summer and pulled all of my rings with tags off lol. Done this way now. It may have even been the traps I got from you that had it.

I recomend you continue tagging in the normal way AND THEN tag in this manner as well. The obvious (visual) tag makes life easier for the warden.....it also is the tag that a theif will remove, often missing the less obvious tag.
I wrap the tag around the trap frame or on my Grizzes I wrap the tag through the swivel body to keep them from getting chewed but I ALWAYS tag with an additional tag in an obvious manner, even if it is going to be a coons chew toy.

The copper ones from Larry Finch are all I've used, have'nt seen any brass ones, they may be harder to fold on,but should work ok.Robert makes a good point in above post about double tagging.

I understand the two tags- but the ONE I've always used is awrapped up tight, dyed, etc. There's never been anything that says I have to make it easy to read...
Under my "administration", I'm taking it to the MDC to let us use out Conservation ID#. Whos' with me???

I'm in favor of it and I've heard a lot of people say they would like to just have their conservation # on trap tags.
But with the new rules that young trappers would not have to buy a trapping license they would not have to have a conservation # either would they? If they've never bought a tag that is.

Im in favor of conservation # on tags. I see no reason to have our address on there for everyone to see and possibly put our families in danger if some anti finds the trap and chooses to harass us.

Travis,I guess the young trappers can just write youth on their trap like they're going to do when they sell their fur.Wonder how that will work on an otter or bobcat, getting cites tagged and shipping to international auction?Oh well,I'm sure they got it figured out.

If you trap within the rules, make leagal sets put your name. number to call, dont be afraid. A leagle set is a leagle set. If a dog bungles on to your set pet him, and let it go . The ignorance of the owner is the guilty party. Set in safe zones. If it is a inbetween zone use a rubber jawed trap. Save rover for the person who has no sence. The day of the free trapper remains in our hands. Put the trap tag on so all can see its the law. Make it easy for the g warden. If its hard to read they will pull it to read it, period. They are the law within their interpitatiuon. They are not messing around with the grey area. Name ,rank And whatever it takes to get a hold of you, this is the trapping law. Be an example not a radical. The 6

Guys; I just moved back home to Missouri on March the first. What is this Rubber Jawed trap zone? I like two tagging traps also. I take a center punch and put my family's cattle brand on the base plate of each trap. I use rebar stakes with a mowing machine section welded to them with welded swivels and links. It takes a car jack and or bolt cutters to remove them. I like to rivet the bottom tag on the baseplate facing up and then people don't look for anything else. Rich

Richard the grey area would be you have permission on this piece of ground and the owner of the other ground has dogs. You set up and catch the others dog in a rubber jawed trap. You set it free. The other is happy. And your still trapping. Even tho the other guy disobeys the law your still good. So when push comes to shove your still fine and the other guy dosnt have a leg to stand on!

I caught a few dogs in my day and everyone but one walked away just fine. The one I put down had mange and I am about 99% sure it was feral. Talk about one ugly critter.

Richard, Your traps sound like Ours ! Around here You have to keep them pretty much bolted to the ground so they don't get picked up by the 'wrong person'. Or maybe You live in Our area and have to deal w/ the same 2 Guys ? I want to put out a little sign for them to read. But I'm being the 'good one' in this situation.

do you have to have you're full address on the tag, or can you just have you're name, city, state on it?
