I got a comment for every sentence you said. I keep a 40# recurve and arrows on my front deck and try to shoot every day. I am shying away from my 55# and 70#. My favorite bow is 45# York made in Independence MO. Nobody ever taught me squat. When I was 8 years old, I got a 20# fiberglass for my birthday. The neighbor dared me to shoot the air conditioner and the whole neighborhood heard the freon escape. I have had a recurve with sights as well as compound. I am back to a bare bow. I stump shoot for several reasons. I hate that crappy backstop sitting out in the yard. I moved it behind the barn for people that come over. They might lose an arrow without it. I can walk around with a judo and shoot beer cans and leaves and never hunt for my arrow. I have 5 compounds that will probably hang there until the string rots. They are old school compounds so nobody wants them. Real shame as they are all shooters. Right now I am in a slump. My first shot is right in there and it gets worse from there. Stump shooting makes every shot my first because the conditions change. Looking at a backstop with a paper target bores me and it shows. Every time I try something new it backfires. Three under. Gap shooting. Aiming. I keep going back to what works. Asian archery has interested me lately with a thumb ring and shelving arrow on right side but I am reluctant to take the plunge. I am also checking out Commanche style as it is not that different and proven effective. Who says that archers are automatically deer hunters? I used to carry my bow with me all the time and use it on whatever I came across. I have shot rabbits, squirrels, coon, coyote, quail, rats, turkey, muskrat, groundhogs, armadillos, possums, fish, bullfrogs and that one air conditioner coil. I used to live back on an old road where all my neighbors were archers. Every night we would gather and shoot. That was a real gamechanger. Companionship and competition. We shot and shot and it was fun. Now I am lone ranger. Whats really bad is my desire to shoot primitive traditional archery. Longbow with hand fletched arrows with flint broadheads. Kinda stupid really as I have all this modern stuff which is superior. So back to the statement you made in the video about getting back on track. I think a lot of it is just repetitiously pulling back the bow for muscle control. Three under and gap and string crawl has always frustrated me.

Several you tubes on it. A lot like English but bow grip is different as well as finger release. A commanche can have several arrows launched before the first one hits.

I have this romantic idea of hiking with just a bow and arrows. Camp out and have 2 pounds of archery gear instead of a heavy gun. Camp out and hunt and just have whats on your back. Kind of a fall event. I wondered why Indians back in 1750 who could launch 10 or 20 or 30 arrows a minute would want a gun. Short range heavy smooth bore flintlocks. I found my answer reading through some old manuscripts. They wanted the smoke and fire and boom. They had no concept of velocity or foot pounds or rust. They just wanted something that made noise and fire to intimidate the enemy. Kind of a shame as there was a void in archery technology until Pope and Young found Ishi.

That's what I want to do. A week (or more) in the mountains with just my bow, arrows, and what I need, bare minimum, to live. No cell phone (still don't own one anyway). I have a 1997 model Garmin hand-held GPS that a boat customer gave me one time that folks say I have to take. Huh. Interesting. But it sounds like a convenience... Maybe a fly rod and a few flies.
Folks question these plans. They question my sanity. What a STUPID question- of course I'm a little insane. It's the people who say that they aren't nuts that you have to watch out for...
These are the same folks who question my floating in the swamps of Louisiana last May in a kayak, with the snakes and GATORS. No one want wants a challenge any more. They want to sit in the air conditioning or the fabricated heat and be comfortable. Not me. For whatever reason I enjoy a little suffering. It makes the times that I am comfortable that much nicer.
Just me, my bow, and a backpack full of the essentials. Maybe not full, either. That could be one of the best weeks of my life?

Wait a minute- the bow and arrow, or the cigarette? Dale Dale-You made that arrow. I decided if I ever went remote alone that I would take a Garmin Spot with me. You buy service one month at a time for like $19. It works everywhere on the planet. You can text the wife or you can send out an SOS beacon that says come get me. I am ready for trekking. I have the gear. I have a telescoping flyrod too. Just for giggles I might pack a .22 pistol.

I'm getting more and more hooked on my Mountain Bike. I'm not riding today and that was a stupid move, 'cuz it's a WAY better day today. Anyway, got busy, and I just got done giving the bike a scrub down. By the time it's dry and I get it lubed (with liquid wax) I'll take it for a short cruise before I go to work to get the lube worked in, but that's about it.
Many days I ride it to the restaurant, but it's dark now when it's time to go home, and I need to invest in some GOOD lighting for the thang.
I'm working on the bow project too Mike. Got a project going for tomorrow, and of course another YT video (the last one done pretty good) will follow. The way we shoot bows is huge good for the body. And the soul

These days, I am sure they made cheap LED lights that are stupid bright. When I was a kid, we had battery headlights. Took D cells. Lasted a couple hours. I remember Dad got me a generator light. I was thrilled. Then I found out they make it harder to pedal. One time I was headed out fishing on my bike and needed bait. I robbed a few sparrow nests and crammed my headlight full of baby birds. When fishing and bam-bam. Being nesting season, the big fish were looking for a bird to fall in the creek. We caught down on bass and channel. My Mom found out what we did and got pi$$ed. I should park the 35# bow and move up to a 40# bow. I used to shoot a 70# bow but that was in my prime. Goal is get back into my 45# bow for deer. I need a bow with long length. My short bows behave different.

Since last post I have been shooting almost daily. When I moved up to the 45# bow, things got weird. I noticed I had to concentrate on my brace and release and it was a struggle. With the lighter bows, it was subconscious and effortless. I am hoping that the 45# will become more natural. A 35# bow will launch an arrow clear through a deer barring bones. Yup, I start out on the front deck in the shade and pick out targets in the yard. I use judo points so no backstop. Whats funny is there are rabbits hopping all around the yard while I am shooting. They seem to know they are safe.

Back tension. I'll guarantee it.
I am NOT shooting for various reasons, mostly just excuses with on major issue (pain). Anyway, a perfect morning and all I've done is plug my daughters' tire (it got SCREWED) and now I'm editing a video for my bass fishing channel.
Funny thing is, I bought another bow off of eBay yesterday. I don't NEED any more bows, it's like a sickness. And I'm pretty much done with recurves, but that's what this one is. A Martin Mamba at 65 pounds. Lordy, I hope it's got good limbs...

It is back tension. I am hoping repetition will overcome it. I guess my body doesnt like 45# draw as opposed to 35# (which is easy). My best bow is a vintage bear super kodiak at 55#. I dont see me using that. I also have a 75# bow that I may never draw again. I used to shoot a 45# all day with little fatique. Oh wait, I was 25 years old....

Huge set back. I hurt my elbow hauling in honey. I can still draw but it hurts. Last night I got out broadheads and they were all over the place. Even missed my backstop with one and ruined it. Time to back up and come in again. Doesnt bug me much because I knew broadheads would fly different and I am in no hurry to hunt deer in the jungle.

I still hurt just keep slinging arrows with a smaller poundage. I have a Bass Pro gift card and cant find nothing I want. I went to the dark side and looked at crossbows. Felt like I stumbled onto a gay website. Gave me the chills and I closed it out. Reviews told tales of limbs blowing and strings breaking and personal injury. Dont need that. My brother bought a barnett. He shot it one day and he had his thumb sticking up. When he pulled the trigger the string ripped his entire thumbnail completely off. I was standing there and totally shocked and grossed out. He was screaming like a scalded hound and I threw him a hankerchief.
