Went farm pond fishing and caught one fish. Biggest bullhead I have seen in a while. I caught a big one in 1974 and us kids were amazed but this one is just a little bigger. It weighed 2 1/2# and is 15 inches long.

When I was a kid every mud hole that held water year round had bullheads in it. Now days it's hard to find a good bullhead hole. They make awesome flathead bait.

When we were kids, we only had bluegill and bullhead. If we caught a bass then Dad told us to throw it back to get bigger. Catching a mess of mud kitties makes a meal. We caught ones that probably weighed up to a pound. I was just as thrilled to catch a pound bullhead back then as I am to catch a big cat now. Its amazing how do peel them out of a tiny branch in the pasture or a pond that looks like it is drying up. Wee dig a pond and a year later it is full of bullhead. I dont know how they get in there but I laugh at the "Eggs stuck to a ducks foot" theory. I had an old timer once tell me they come out of the ground from underwater rivers. Thats the only explanation I can see as the pond is on top of a hill so it isnt creek run off.

Got my dirt and wax out today. I wonder if it will be hot enough? On a side note we have got 3" of rain in the last week. Too late for a hay crop, but at least the crab grass and foxtail is growing so the cows can graze.

Haven't caught a bullhead in decades. When I was in my late teens, a friend and I used to fish the Fredricktown city lake. You could catch as many of them as you wanted to clean. We always threw them back, hoping for a channel cat.

Bullheads are hell on the eggs and fry of any other fish and frogs.

Gonna be a real bitch this week, high 90's and triple digit temps for the weekend. I'm getting too old for this shit! Deja Vu! Started this thread a year ago with this post, and it applies again this week! LOL Go figure.

I used to tell people that the only real news was the weather. Well now it appears that they are pushing the global warming agenda. They are saying it is so hot and the planet is burning up. A smart person would think to themselves that it is late July and it is supposed to be hot. Dog days. Just like last year and the year before and the year before.

Once again a huge wind event with only a tenth of inch rain. Several trees, a telephone pole, and tree limbs down all over town. I drove down to the river to my fishing spot and a huge cottonwood tree was laying across it. I'd just cut one up a couple weeks back there and this one was twice the size.

We got 3/10 of an inch late afternoon. Not in the forecast.Ray said they got a tiny sprinkle at Lebanon with thunder.
I always wanted to build a dug out canoe out of a big cotton wood. The older I get they less I am inclined. Used to know an old man that built polebarns out of cottonwood. He said once that wood got covered with tin then it got hard as a rock.

Once again we got shorted on the rain. Seems it either fades out or takes a sharp turn just before it gets here.
Spent the day cutting up the fallen cottonwood tree in the drizzle. My little 021 Stihl only has a 16 inch bar but is a cutting machine. The use of a floor jack to crib up the huge limbs made things alot easier.

John-Ray has same problem in Lebanon. Storms go around him or fizzle before they get there. He might have an inch in the last month. All these little drizzles keep things green but creeks aren't chugging.

According to the weather clown, we're supposed to get thunderstorms tonight. It's overcast right now with temps in the low 80's. I'd like to get the grass cut before it rains but gotta fix a flat tire on the riding mower first.

Actually the clown has like a 15% chance forecasted everyday for the next week. So...it's either going to rain or not rain. Brilliant!

Well boys the good Lord blessed us with a quality rain. 4 inches here with more to the south of us.
Ponds that receive water from runoff were getting filled up. Creeks getting flushed out and filled back up.
Finished getting the cottonwood tree up this morning so the farmer can get everything pushed out of the way.
