Who all, if anyone, is going to the Mo. Trappers Auction the 22nd of this month? I hear they have 90 lotted numbers and expect to have 14 or 15 buyers.

I am guessing the few trappers left in the state that attend this site are selling to FHA. Hope it works out. MTA auction doesn't break down the results so no one understands that good fur is worth a little and crappy fur has no value. I have bought 135 cats this winter and have promised to buy about 50 more. But. done buying cats except for a few trappers I promised. Finish them and ship to FHA and I bet you will be happy. I only have a handful of serious taxis who buy every cat I send them. Gotta keep finding a few more. All my cats are sold but ain't buying any more except for the promised purchases. Someone on this site needs to swell up and buy a dealer's license for 100 and let me spend more time chasing my young lady around the house and yard! You won't get rich but will meet lots of great folks!

Gee Marc, I would do it but have no idea what I am doing. Bungie jumping and gas station sushi are higher on my bucket list.
I think a guy could do alright buying put up fur. As I said before, you can see what you are getting. Dealing with the public, I envision people bringing in a shot up mess and expecting you to fork over a jillion for it. Other people bring in a wet soppy frozen mess and you find out later if it is sellable.
Only reason I would do it is to help people out and socialize. There are a lot more ways to invest money that is safer.
Fond memories of going to town to sell fur. Visiting the fur buyer and seeing all his put up fur and a big carcass pile. Helpers skinning and scraping. Then going on the square and blowing it on new traps and ammo. All them old timers are dirt and the buildings on the square are falling down.
Today you can go see the fur buyer and spend all your profits at Caseys….

Yep! I still have 50 or more serious trappers who bring in lots of furs. Some still bring in 1000-2000 worth. Mainly bobcats and foxes. Never seen so many cats and greys as this season. I will still buy 1000 or so coons, mainly accidental catches, and will pay $2 average and lose .50 each when Groenwald comes through. No biggee. Make 10 here and lose .50 there. I sell to about 100 buyers and buy from less than 100. Times are changing! haha
You would make a great fur buyer, Krank. So would Big Bad John! You both care about the future of trapping. To me, it has always been a break even hobby. No one will ever buy fur for a living again unless they are totally established like Groenwald. Those days are over. Got to appreciated trappers and care about the future of the planet to enjoy buying furs and being a happy participant in the process. Only one lonely soul in these part who fills that description. Sad!!
