i sold 38 today, all were lg-2x.avg 5.00. better than i thought i was going to get. Great deal. Were they finished or green? I was thinking about paying 3,2,1 for XXX, XX and X this year but that sounds too high if your northern MO coons were finished. I will prob sell my coons and beavers to Groenwald. He told me straight on the phone that there was no way I could make any money buying furs this year if I sell to him. Trappers get what he pays so only way I can make a nickel is to pay the trapper a nickel less. I appreciate Groenwalds. Since nafa turned south, they are moving in to all parts of the country. I plan to give all my sellers (trappers mainly) a list of Groenwalds pick up schedule. Finally came out with the AR routes today. Searcy is closest but finally can send those gals and guys there instead of taking up freezer space for raccoon pelts. Peterman will get first shot at all my furs but buys heavier northern critters and really has trouble dealing with our coat coons down here. Paying $50 tops for pretty unskinned bobcats and $15 for pretty unskinned reds and greys is best I can do. Rest of the critters (even yotes) are not worth my time. $1 for all unskinned possums. But, gotta have a perfect head. Body goes to my bald eagle feeder, head goes to FL for 1.50. Fun!!

they was put up.[/quotehis Thank you, trappercr and walkadog. Great to know there are a few folks still willing to conserve our wildlife populations! Yay for you both. Also, thanks for the real market picture vs misinformation that spreads like wildfire! I already had a trapper call me today and said he could get $8 average for green coon pelts. I told him I had 400 and he could take them for $2 each and split his huge profit with me! He said he would call me back. Actually, he made a smart decision. haha Groenwald told me I could break even if I paid 3,2,1 for top three grades. But, any bruises or dog chew marks are thrown out. I appreciate his honesty. Furs are finally beginning to move and, are and probably will always be low priced. He will get the freezer fillers (coons and beavers) and I will give away the skinned crap people bring in and sell the pretty whole critters for $10-20 profit. That is the Silverfox business model that makes me enough to buy my gorgeous young lady a new dress every spring!!

Thanks for the update fellas. I had 60 some finished coon I thought of running to Chillicothe stop but with these warmer temps I needed to get traps checked first. No frost in the ground makes it hard to get around.

Sold 79 put up coon to Gronewald today for $8 average, no cherry picking. 8 put up skunks for $7 average. One small red fox for $10. I didn't sell any coyotes but saw $40 tops paid for green coyotes. Looked like green coon were averaging $5 from the folks I talked to. Didn't see any beaver, otter, or cats sold.
This was at Concordia

Did anyone sell? I didn't have enough beavers and coons to justify the trip but am curious how it went. Searcy, AR, Cairo, IL and Licking are my three closest stops in those three states. Licking is close enough it'll be worth the drive when they are back in March. Let us know if you sold anything. Thanks

Don't know other than mine ran mostly 3x and 4x. I use a wire stretcher with a wood insert to insure I get the most length out of my coons. I also brush them when I take them off the stretchers so they look their best.

I also brush them when I take them off the stretchers so they look their best. Any trapper who finishes their fur the way you and others on this site will get top dollar. I promise, Groenies buyer wasn't gonna let you drive off with beautifully finished pelts. Green is a different story. He can offer you 3-4 average for green pelts and you are over a barrel. Take em home and refreeze them or figure something else out. I tell trappers with finished furs to sell to Groeny or someone else they can find. I have copies of his pickup schedule so they have no excuse to not know where truck is gonna be.I buy and sell the green coons for breakeven price which is totally fine with me. Groeny told me if I paid 3,2,1,0 for the top grades starting with XXX prime pretty trapped coons, I could break even but won't make anything. That is perfect. All raccoon catches in this region are accidents and most get thrown away when caught. Coon hunters quit keeping them when they got down to five average. You have some beautiful furs up in your area. Great job and thanks for sharing your info with out forum.

I would say green fur is risky. You don't see all the bullet holes and it may start slipping. Wadded up mess. Take a nice put up fur and you can quick study it in less than a minute.

You are very correct. You and Big John are a few of the only trappers left. Like me, you do not need the GD money for your fur but trapping fewer is wild! Had an ole time trapper call me today but could not meet because he had cats and otters he couldn't get tagged so he cancelled out early enough I could harvest my last bow kill deer! When we were talking he said he was getting old. I didn't ask his age but he volunteered it and said he was 82. He is an Ozark young pup, but old by capitalist Northern standards, Haha Even at this realistic low market, I promise he will have over $1000 or more worth of furs. He doesn't need the money and never will but sure loves trapping! Yay for him and all trappers who trap because they are addicted! That is me and all the folks I buy from during the new markets. Real trappers trap!!!

The media hypes this crap up. They have way too much influence on world matters.

I read up on it. They dont know anything about the virus. They say it is not the worst outbreak that ever happened. That furbuyer was not the media. He claimed it was worse than the news said.
