Will be a busy month though next month. Hogs will die and burnt gun powder will be in the air

Not enough velocity, penetration or range.
These bigger hogs, even with a 180 grain PSP bullet from a 308 there is no exit wound.
In Mississippi in the last 12 month time frame I killed 448 head of hogs.

Robert- You have special needs. Most of us are happy with bolt actions or single shot 30 calibers. I have heard a lot of bad press on AR-10s being troublesome but I actually know one guy that has one built right. He wont sell it. Best gun in the world is an M1-A.........Cost more but praised highly. Some like an FAL but I have no desire to have one. The only other 308 I can think of that shoots fast is the Browning model 71 lever action or the M70 auto. All them guns (except the M70 & 71) are way over a grand.

Krank, Yeah, the guns I'm using are in the $1650 range. Boy would I like to use a Springfield M1A1. Problem is mounting one of the very expensive thermal scopes on one of them.

Krank, What kind of problems am I likely to run into assembling a rifle from various parts like this?? Any head spacing issues? Problems with the upper fitting properly with the lower??

Read the description and the upper (if purchased assembled) is correct. I have never had a problem with uppers and lowers connecting and disconnecting. Its just that when they developed the A-10 Stoner intended it for 5.56. AR10s have gas block problems and extraction problems and ejection problems and buffer spring problems but who cares. Until you build one these are all non-issue and need to be addressed only if trouble arises. The absolute worst AR abortion is the 22 LR conversion......Almost impossible to work reliable.
I will call my buddy the Colt man. He was thrilled when I showed him Daytona stuff. Let me verify his approval of a Daytona A-10.

Thanks,I appreciate it.
Currently I'm using a Rock River and a DPMS. Both are excellent guns a Nd have proven very reliable in the mud and blood. These two brands will not interchange uppers and lowers.

One question. These 80% lowers. Have you done one before?

I bought a stack of 100% finished lowers so I don't care about 80% lowers. I got a buddy that makes them from scratch too but I aint that gunho.

Sounds like the AR-10 is the only gun to meet your needs. High capacity. 308 stopping power. Long range and optic mount capability. The 6.8 spc would work too but the ammo is harder to find. Next step up would be an M-60.

There have been instances where a belt fed weapon would have been the ideal tool to have.
Been a few times in fresh planted corn fields where there were 20-30 hogs in front of me knowing full well 7-8 were as many as I would be able to lay down before they made it to the tree line and cover. Knowing the remaining hogs would be back in another field somewhere the following night doing further damage.

For me, if I can lay down (and recover) 9 hogs or more out one bunch by myself it is a very successful encounter!
