I tried it once, but nite latching the notch is stronger and more consistent.

Factory nite-latches are junk. They still need a lot of work with a file to be a TRUE latch. You cannot feel my pans move at all before my traps fire on the regular-style dogs. On my 1-3/4 Bridgers, even after I've notched the "bump" on the dog and shortened the distance between it and the bump, I still get some creep.
With the proper tools I make my latches in under a minute or so. Folks here have seen me do it, and these latches last years generally before they need touched-up.
It's a mechanical fact that a lever works better from the static side than it does from the loaded side.

Not a fan of the night-latched dog either. It's okay for beaver traps but for predator traps I'd much rather night-latch my pans.

And I don't nite-latch my Beaver traps. I know, weird, but I don't see the need.

The pans on my #4 longsprings beaver traps are P-I-T pans (only have 2 of them) and I saw no need to change the way they came.

The PITS are just about PERFECT for water trapping.

I was gonna try and night latch my pans last year but couldn't because I'd already filed to much of the original pan notch off. There is no room for movement though, once there set I level the pan and that's it. I'm afraid that after a few years I'll have to replace the pans from wear an tear.
