Yep. Everyone speaks MONEY. Dale aha That's the truth! You always do a great job of wading through the b.s. and getting to the point, Dale. Keep on trapping. Thee animals need it more than we do!! Animal rights folks would not understand that!!

From what I'm hearing some of our local buyers will not be buying this fall. They can not buy those coon cheap enoough to come out on them. One of our bigger country buyers is being quoted as saying "he has all the coons he wants" and really isn't interested in investing in any more currently.
In regards to NAFA, remember they did NOT offer any fresh shipments of coon and beaver. MANY Missouri trappers have coon up there that have not been offered for sale YET!
Currently I believe NAFA is setting on 500-750,000 coons right now before they ever run a route collecting fur for the next sale.
The beaver situation / market is probably the worse. Pretty bad when finished beaver sell for less than coons.

So many things affect the wild fur market. Weather, farmed fur, economy, dressing issues to name a few. Seems like we're always fighting an uphill battle. Glut of farmed mink and warm winter overseas sure doesn't bode well for the coon market. I mean how many women are going to chose a coon coat over a mink coat? I've also read where fox is starting to fall out of fashion. Another thing that doesn't help. Lots of folk still believe that the anti's are the ones killing the fur market, but I think the general public is starting to see thru them and now they are pretty much out of the equation. Like Marc says, all we can do is trap and hope for the best. Myself,I'll explore different avenues to sell to help me along, but I'll still trap.

I wish I could go back tot he beginning and cut & paste all the times this subject has been hashed over. Then I'd go to T-man, do the same, and lock this site up. It 'tis what i-'tis.
I like it when all the newbies say they're gettin' ripped off. That's my favorite part. That and a scoop of ice cream on my Apple Pie.

As an old friend of mine, lifelong trapper and furbuyer, once said "it's all a skin game; trapper skins the animal, furbuyer skins the trapper, raw fur companies skin the country buyer, dressers skin the raw fur folks, fashion folks skin the dressers and the rich gals end up wearing skins just like a cave girl did."

Anybody subscribe to or read tbe Sandy Parker report?
To summarize in a nut shell we have not hit botgom yet. Western bobcats and heavey coyotes have a market but will see a correction (meaning lower than last year). Everything else is in deep trouble.
A friend of mine watched Groenwald buying coon this week in Wisconsin. Shook out to a $6 average green skinned.

Talked to a friend up in North central Iowa coon season has been going on since last weekend he has sold some green fur the first batch went for a 5.65 avg and the latest batch went to 7.40 avg he has sold 70+ coon so far? he knows it is still a little early on coons but it is what everyone is saying so far, buyers are very cautious as to price paid.......
