This is a northern Indiana coon and it is about 85% prime. I normally get graded in the northern semi heavy at NAFA. For the new guys getting ready to go out and hit the coon sets heavy notice the bluish tint to the leather along the back which is the last to prime and is the money maker. Two weeks from now this coon will be worth more than twice as much. That's the difference between buying breakfast and buying an entire tank of gas....

I'm new to this board but will definitely agree. I may not have trapped as much as some of you guys but enough to see the difference a few weeks makes. Hard to beat late December early January fur, unfortunately the coon are holed up in most parts, but if you get a few warm nights in the mid 30's and have some sets working? you can catch some of the biggest most beautiful fully furred coon. It's worth the wait, but with price forecasts, hard times and loads of DS's out there it will be tuff. I don't think the animal numbers are there this year

If the fur isn't prime until a month in the season why don't we shorten the season again?

I thought that was why we shortened it in the first place! Lol They shortened it to get some popcorn? LMAO. Pass the popcorn please. Each critter primes up at different times so they just kinda group them all together, Its up to the trapper to make sure what critter to go for and when to get it. IMO

I will say this. It has to do with fairness between the Northern trappers and the Southern Trappers and a happy medium.

Never, never ask to have your opportunity taken away. It is opportunity not mandatory, who thinks one required to fish on the opening day? Be a lot less work to have a one day season, wouildn't it? Let us hear from the furbuyers!
Wonder if popcorn would be good DP bait?

I still say they should "zone" the season, just like waterfowl...

Too complicated. We had otter zones until three years ago. Makes a liar and a thief out of some.
