I am trying to tan a beaver I salted it for 2days I pickled for 2days and i rinsed in soda for 30min then I use brush on tan. It is not taking the tan it just all rinsed off even after 2 nights. Please advise Thanks Sean

Slice a piece off the edge. Leather should be the same color all the way through. Might be tanned. Dont expect it to look like anything until you bust it dry. Also, if you left any subcutaneous tissue on the leather side then it will never tan......

What brand of tan you using?Why did you rinse it after tanning?

I used McKenzie tan and it said to rinse. I thought it should be tan in color after it sat. It is as white as can be. I fleshed it before salting and degreased during pickling.

It is white all the way through the cut. I will sew up leg holes and ears tonight and start breaking. I will bring it next weekend you can look at it tell me what you think I need to work on.

During the breaking process, feel free to apply a sulphinated solution to the leather. This is like a cup of neats foot oil and 3 cups of water in a spray bottle. It will also change your color to tan.....
