I am wanting to expand my setup next year and trying to get the best bang for the $. I'm looking to expand my target animals also from coyotes to include fox and bobcat. In my search I've come across these.. www.minntrapprod.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=204_899_934_1882&products_id=6485Even if you bought springs to 4 coil and lamination kits you'd only have another $20 or so in them. Wouldn't this be a pretty good price for a dozen versitile traps or am I not looking at something I should. Any input appreciated.

It just seems like a pretty sweet deal for the price to me. Beefed up for the yote but not so big for the fox. But then again I don't know much.

With music wire spring you don't really need to 4 coil them. Music wire springs are strong and last for ever. Im still holding coyotes with 1 1/2 North Woods with music wire springs on them that I bought 15 years ago.

Thanks login, I didn't realize that much advantage to music wire springs...I'm still learning. Then, in my mind it just makes it that much better of a deal. The lamination kits (if you wanted them) are just under ten bucks. Even cheaper yet as long as I'm not over looking anything else.?.?.

I got a dozen offsets before season and added laminations to them. They are plenty trap to hold yote with the 2 coils from the factory. Very good trap for the money

After thinking about these traps I'm seeming to have some reservations. Being new and not all that great at sets then I can't get past the jaw size and pan size I have used on my #3's. I just can't help but think the biggger trap is more forgiving. now I'm stuck on the fence. it didn't help that after I begin to think about this I seen a rant on YouTube from Clint locklear on the same subject. what are your guys opinions?

If you are strictly 'cat and coyote trapping a #3 may be the way to go. I use more #2's myself, but the 3's get a workout also. The 1.75's are a go-to trap for when you may have fox, which I do set specifically for. A #3 four-coiled trap is great for the big animals, but can be hard on the little critters.
The advantage to a GOOD 1.75 is that when you set them for a fox, and a 'yote or big 'cat comes along and steps in it, you still have plenty enough trap.
There is the advantage to having done this long enough that I have a lot of traps- I can pick and choose for specifics. Don't get shook up about it. The fact that there is a great 1.75 on the market that needs little work to make trapline-ready is a bonus. It weren't always that way.

Yes I can see what you're saying. Maybe I should just buy a half dozen or so to set if I specifically find fox sign but primarily stay with my threes. At least it seems like a great trap for the money and I can have some variety without breaking the bank.

There ya go.
And remember- folks like Mark June use 1.75's and 550's exclusively. There IS more than one way to skin a critter.

The bridger 1.75 has held every thing I've ask it to. Including the meaty part of the palm of my hand. It happen in September and I still have the mark.

The 1.75's did not make the new catalog. The pricing (at least my dealer pricing) is the same as the 1.65's.
