What are the best dps to get, and what are the best baits for them? One more question, will they catch a mink?

Coon daggers are the best I have used, marshmallows and fish oil for my go to bait, and they will not work on mink. Dp's are killer on dry land coons, I prefer PVC and pocket sets on water coon.

I like the dukes , I also have the little grizz too , but like the Dukes better cause they cost less , and really hold a coon good , I like makeral with a few drops of shellfish oil and some salt , salt is just for when it gets colder out but always put in my mix

dukes for me. spring is a tad weaker than the grizz, but still plenty strong. i like the spike betr than the loop on the grizz to anchor in the ground. jack mac veggie oil mix with marshmelows for bait...

If you look, you will see lots on the topic. I myself have posted pictures of various DPs and the pros and cons. And no, they are not a mink trap.

Canned fish.....grocery store. You can buy it at the Dollar Store but dont take it all. The homeless depend on that stuff at $1.25 a can.

I buy the cheapest I can find. Usually $1.19 a can at Dollar General, up to $3 a can in a grocery store.

Have any of you used the z-trap? How do you tie them down, like to a tree or tree root?

All your DPs need staked down. That little stabber on the trap is just to stand it up. You want that to turn loose during the struggle and most DPs have a swivel. Stake it down over a foot deep with rebar or cable. I have thrown chain around a tree and quick-linked it but that is my least favorite way to anchor. The Ztraps are cheap and thats all I know about them.

I have 16 Duke DP's and 1 DHDP. The DHDP hasn't caught a thing.....yet. But then again, a lot of my Dukes didn't catch a thing this year! The DHDP is without a doubt the easiest to set of any of them! And I'm confident that if it had been there in place of the Dukes it would have held them just the same!

The Ztrap is pretty much identical to the Duke DP other than the big washer on the stake to keep it from spinning and the push/pull trigger where the Duke has just a pull type trigger.

The Z-Trap is more like the Dagger. In fact, if you were to consider the Z-Trap over the Dagger, thereby alienating the Dagger's manufacturer who supports this site, I'd have to come lookin' for ya.
Dagger and Coon Collector (DHDP). Both by 'board members. 'Nuff said.

z-traps are imported and heard bad stories about not being functional and having to bend and cut to get to work. Never ever considered buying them when they are close in price to US made DPs.

AND if you could hear the stories (and you will Mike) about, well, let's just say the POLITICS of the situation, you would stick with the Dagger.

I like the DHDPs too. The new trigger makes them better yet. Dukes are OK except they cost the same as a dagger or a DHDP so why settle for that?
