Eagle Bluffs Conservation Area 6700 west route K Columbia mo. BOD meeting at 10am and general membership meeting at 1pm.
The MTA has picked a location closer to the center of the state to help make it's spring meeting more accessible for our members. It takes 40 people to make a quorum , which is needed to conduct business. There are new request for changes to the trapping regs that need to be reviewed to see if they will be put before the general membership at the fall meeting to be voted on. This is your chance to talk with your district directors and voice your opinion and ideas.
& Arkansas. But the argument that a central location makes it closer, only works if you live in a central location. Think, those that live in that central location are equally close to all four corners, hosting by District means that over time everyone has an opportunity to attend without staying overnight. I was at the spring meeting last year, when it was in my District. I was at the fall meet a few years ago near Lebanon, that was supposed to be in my District. I expect to be at the National in Springfield. Not every place is to far and too far varies with when, travel conditions etc. Miles are much shorter in the flat lands than they are in the southern hill country. Even in the hills, a road can make miles shorter, not too long ago the 75 minute trip to Joplin was cut to 40 minutes with the opening of I49. That in turn brings places like Nevada and Rolla closer time wise. I wasn't complaining about the location, but, if all MTA functions are to be held in the same location, as has been proposed, I think that over time the member participation will dwindle further and the result will be a local club. My guess is that few will go more than a couple hours from home for a club meeting.
Anyhow, my appreciation to those that do get there and y'all have fun.
What I see is people at least trying . I want to remind everyone these are not paid positions . These men spend a lot of time and their own money to be an officer in the MTA or any trappers org, This is a big state ,and big districts and I see no easy answer to this problem .
I for one thought a central location would be better and spoke out saying as much . Not picking on anyone ,but it is a big state .
at the fall rendezvous it was brought up that the last 2 spring meeting we did not have enough people for a quorum so it was voted on to have the spring meeting closer to the middle of the state in hopes of getting enough members to have a quorum
Probably get a quorum there as there are more members in that area than in some other areas. I truly doubt many will drive five plus hours one way for a meeting though. For me that would be an overnighter.
To insure the best attendance every thing should be scheduled in the District with the most members. But anyway you slice it it will be what it will be. If the Spring Meeting involved more than just a basic board meeting that also might get more attendance. Hold a turkey shoot or give away a trap. Might try setting it on Auction Day. I don't know the answers, but from all appearances neither does anyone else.
Be terrible interesting to know for sure if every member that voted for a Central location actually attends, eh? Anyways hope you all are there and have a great meet.
give Ann or Bob Scarlet a call they should have copies ( 573-216-8422 ) folks the Dist. that host the spring meeting does not get anything for hosting the meeting its not like we are taking money or anything from that dist. I have drove all over this state just to find out we did not have enough members to have a quorum so I don't have a problem with holding the spring meeting some where close to the middle of the state.
TJM-If they moved the meeting to Neosho to make you happy, would you even show up and pay your dues so you can vote? Nowhere in MO is more than 4 hours from Columbia and the furthest point is boot heel and I am sure Tyler will be there.
Random spots that exceed 4 hours at best case Steele 5:16 (about as boot heel as it gets) Eagle Rock 4:57 Powell 4:57 Noel 5:03 Jane 4:57 (right on the Interstate) Doniphan 5:18 Alton 4:58 Longview 4:54 Seneca 4:40 Protem 4:43 (almost straight south of Columbia)\
Mike, I was at the last spring meeting and iirc Tyler wasn't. (Further from home than Neosho)I even had a thread here saying when it was and Robert was the only one to post a reply, he said it was hog killing time.
Paul, thanks for the phone number. fwiw, I don't have any problem with where the meeting is, I just said I won't be there. I am not quite sure Columbia is the most central location by road though, all the towns along the northern border must be an hour closer than the towns along the southern border.
So, if the meetings are to be in the same central place/District each year, shouldn't that District be compensated? The hosting by different Districts on a rota spread the cost of facility and lunch, as well as any work involved around more or less fairly; a central location does not.

Beauty of the system is don't have a dog in this fight. Wasn't there talk about buying a place so they didn't have to rent? My point is that ,as an observer, I have never seen the MTA announce anything without somebody complaining. That's got to be frustrating from an administrators end. Reminds me of milk cows. Change one thing in the routine and they all start mooing.
