Has any of you k9 trappers ever used cat feces as bait or attractor? I know the neighbor ladies cats like to use my yard for a toilet and when I put my hounds or spaniels on a leash to go to the woods they try there best to smell and/or eat every pile they see. I was curious if anyone has tried this or not. Was thinking of putting some turds and with a game camera and try it. Thanks Howie

I got the idea of using used litter as maybe attracting bobcats. Made a couple of sets and could not keep the coyotes out of it. I just made 2 different piles out of the contents and bedded trap in front just like a post set. This was also the scented type litter and that didn't seem to put the coyotes off though.
I did the same thing a year or two later, but didn't set a trap there and the coyotes had that stuff scattered everywhere. You could see where they kicked back after marking it and would also mark everything in about a 15 foot circle around the pile.
This area has no fox to speak of so I don't know what their response would be.

Yes I just made a little mound out of it,using it as the attractor just like a post set.
Yes it was scented cat litter, the kind that is suppose to hold odor down. I thought,at first, that in itself would cause it to be ineffective but didn't seem to matter.I would think the litter that was just plain ol clay litter would be alot better.
I've used the droppings at walk-thru cat sets and just freshened them up with bladder pee from bobcats before. These were some of the exposed trap sets that took coyotes also. One thing I noticed on those coyotes were they were the young of the year. I've never had what I would call an old coyote caught in them.

Thanks Bigjohn, I am going to grab my camera on Thursday and check it out. I have a big tom house cat and use different types of cat litter, fresh step, clay, the clumping type, maybe I will start saving some of the clumped up urine and some of the turds and put in different containers and put in fur shed freezer till season and give it a shot. Few weeks back I was at the WI annual convention, and Mark June was there and did his presentation on how he bobcat traps. When he made his cat sets, he always puts bobcat turds next to the dirthole he uses with some bobcat urine on the turds. He said that is how you catch the big toms...the attractor may get em there, but that is how you get them. He was asked if housecat turds would work and he said in a pinch, but it is not the greatest. Just thought I would throw this in for what it is worth, from a good presentation by a top cat/k-9 trapper.
