heres some pics of castior dried and what it looks like . the castior that i sell to fur buyers and i have sold a lot and never had any one say negative things about how i put it up. i dry it until its still a little soft in the center the biggest thing fur buyers dont want is over dried castior

If its over dried it gets like a rock and is Hard to grind. If not some times impossible to grind. But if you have a mortar and pestle you can make some fine powder castor from it. But it takes some work. Threestud yours look great! excellent job of putting it up.

i freeze mine it works great . a zip lock bag and your in. dh is right they get hard as rocks lol watch at yard sales for a old food processor you can get them cheap sometimes and they will make castior into powder and its a lot better than hand a grinder

when you get at the castor glands what do you do to get em out? do they just slide out or do you have to cut the meat away from them??

bcm Those castors are located on each side of the vent also there will be 2 white looking glands this is there oil sac's. when cleaning those castors cut and peel the red meat that surounds them off semi dry castor or i have guys put there castor directly in the freezer its so much easyer to grind that way. I bought 20 lbs a dry castor 5-6 yrs ago i finnaly had to get a Lg bottle of glycern and soak themfor over a month to soften them enough to gring. I have alot of powdered castor on hand i have it in film canisters there close to a OZ if not over.

get them out and be carefull not to cut in to the castior it self . you must get all of the skin off it will be red and stuck to the castior its self . as best as you can!! the oil sacks are right there next to the castiors they are about the size of penuts take them out and .what i do is cut the tops of them off with a sharp knife and milk {squize] them until all of the oil is out in to a jar or what ever you have with a lid. then put the emty sacks into a differnt jar and freeze the sacks for bait makein or to selling it sounds like a big deal but once you do it its a pretty simple deal . nothing to it and you can make a little extra money selling the sacks and castior or use it your self in a lure or by its self for beaver

Hey, looking for some dried beaver castor either whole or ground (no glycerine, no oil sac) if anyone has some extra. I'm looking for a pound or so. Just let me know how much, and I'll pay for postage. Would much appreciate

I screwed up then because I milked the oil sacs and then cut up the sacs themselves and added the tiny diced up pieces to the oil and put it all in a jar. Will it still be ok to use? The castors are drying on screen with a fan blowing on them. They have been drying for a little over 24 hours now.

You should be fine but the oil sacs will get stronger over time. And can really over power anything you want to use with it.

I went ahead and screened the oil off the chopped up sac material today, and now I have the oil in one jar and the sac stuff in another.
